Weld Activists Successfully Halt Operations
Tasmania’s Forest Defender Avoids Arrest
“An activist evaded arrest
today in latest direct action in Tasmania’s Southern Forests at
the Denison Valley. The activist successfully negotiated with
Police Rescue to leave his tree platform and the forest.
Today’s peaceful action halted two logging operations for the day
in high conservation value forest in the Little Denison and Lower Weld
Valleys”, said Huon Valley Environment Centre Spokeperson Jenny
Weber.
“This action successfully
highlighted Forestry Tasmania’s ongoing destructive operations
into World Heritage valued forest. This land grab juggernaut continues
to roll on, demonstrating the Lennon government’s complete
disregard for world rated ecology and threatened species
protection,” said Jenny Weber
“Recent changes to the
RFA indicate that the Lennon government and Forestry Tasmania are above
the law, whereas the activists are willing to take legal responsibility
for their actions. Forest defender’s will continue to take action
in the Southern Forests until these unique areas are protected,”
said Jenny Weber
