One arrest in Tasmania's Southern Forest wilderness Weld Valley
"A male protestor was arrested whilst locked on to a logging machine in
the wilderness Weld Valley today. Forestry Tasmania have been rapidly
destroying a high conservation value creek catchment in the Lower Weld
Valley for the past week, whilst ongoing direct action has occurred.
Today's action halted trees being cut down for seven hours," Huon Valley
Environment Centre Spokesperson Jenny Weber said.
"This new logging area in the Weld Valley is a beneficiary of the $250
million given in the recent Federal Liberal and State Labor Community
Forest Agreement, that is being spent to open new wilderness areas with
roads. We ask that the Federal and State Government make honest efforts
to address climate change and protect ancient forests, like those in the
Weld," Jenny Weber said.
