Weld Valley Blockade reestablished by Forest Defenders
“A community forest occupation in Tasmania’s south has today entered its second day, in an area that is under threat from new logging in to
remote Weld Valley wilderness forest. After an exclusion zone was placed on the Denison Valley yesterday, this is third exclusion zone in the
past few months to be put in place in Tasmania’s Southern Forests preventing the public and media from visiting the ancient wilderness
valleys of the Weld, Denison and Upper Florentine,” Huon Valley Environment Centre Jenny Weber said.
“A tree sit attached to the gate on the main access road to the Denison Valley, adjacent to the Weld Valley, halted logging yesterday. A
spotlight is on proposed logging that drives a 7 km road in to the North of the Weld Valley, one of Southern Tasmania’s largest unprotected tracts of rainforest,” Jenny Weber said.
