Giant Banner on cable logger highlights mill impact in Tasmania

Activists have hung a giant banner from a cable logger in a huge Weld Valley clearfell to highlight the impact of Gunns' proposed pulp mill.

“A 15 metre high banner, reading "Kill Mill" is suspended from a cable logger in a huge Weld Valley clearfell. Two activists have suspended themselves on the cable loggers.  Logging in the sixty hectare clearfell has been halted,” said Huon Valley Environment centre spokesperson Jenny Weber.

"If the fast track chemical and pulp mill is allowed to proceed, continued brutal logging scars will spoil Tasmania's landscape, contribute to climate change, habitat loss and damage water catchments," said Jenny Weber.

"Hundreds of thousands of tonnes of flattened forest will be transported across the island, including from the southern forests, to feed the apetite of this mill," Jenny Weber said.

"While today's logging barons reap the benefits of this destruction, future generations will bear the cost,” Jenny Weber said.
