Weld Valley

A gate to a forestry road in the Weld Valley has been locked for safety reasons during a firewood harvesting operation, Huon District Manager Steve Davis said today.

"The contractors have moved into the coupe this week, and the road has been locked in accordance with normal procedures, between 5pm and 7am, to protect the harvesting equipment on site.

"This gate is also regularly closed during the fire season to minimise the risk of wildfire.

"The Huon Valley Environment Centre was informed earlier this week of Forestry Tasmania's intentions to lock the gate."
