Weld Valley Suppporters to Spell Out a Message on Threatened Forests.

Supporters of the campaign to save the Weld Valley will form a giant "STOP"sign in a clearfell at the edge of the threatened world heritage value forests this Sunday 12 March.

The unique sepectacle will coincide with a community open day in the Weld Valley and the release of a Weld Valley pamphlet to be mailed to 5000 homes.

The Huon Valley Environmemt Centre has invited the community to see the pristine forests of the Weld Valley and to make a statememt about the destruction of old-growth forests in the upcoming state election.

"It is time to stop the wasteful destruction of our world-famous forests before time runs out", said Huon Valley Environment Centre spokesperson Jenny Weber.

"The Tasmanian people, through the Tasmania Together process, chose to stop all clearfelling in high-conservation forests like the lower Weld Valley.
The Lennon government has sold out their commitment. It is time for the Tasmanian community to send a clear message to our politicians that the destruction must stop now before it is too late."

The Huon Valley Environment Centre will distribute thousands of leaflets next week in the crucial seat of Denison, urging Tasmanians to vote for the forests in the state election.

"This election will decide the fate of Tasmania's high conservation value forests," Ms Weber said. "We are urging all Tasmanian's to make their voice heard on this vital issue for our state."

Media are invited to attend at 2pm. Event will take place at Camp Weld, on Eddy rd, Weld Valley, Southern Tasmania.
