Activist Arrested at Tasmanian Forest Blockade
"Forest Activist Laura Minnebo was arrested at a forest action protecting a wedge tailed eagle breeding site in Tasmania's Southern Forests. Today's action follows from a successful five day blockade on the slopes of the World Heritage Snowy Range," Spokesperson Warrick Jordan said.
"I was removed after intimidating tactics by a local police officer. I was acting to protect a sensitive endangered species habitat and a pristine water catchment from legally sanctioned forest destruction," Arrestee Laura Minnebo said.
Community Activists are defending threatened forest from clearfelling. This coupe is the first incursion in to the Barnback Catchment that flows wild into the Weld River, past Camp Weld. Camp Weld has been defending ancient forest in the Lower Weld Valley for more than 16 months, halting a new logging road.
