Tasmanian Activist Evades Police at Wedge Tail Breeding Site
"A Community activist evaded police
attempts to move him from a tree sit in threatened forest on the
slopes of the World Heritage Valued Snowy Range, today. Community
Activists have halted logging for the past week in threatened
forest containing Wedge Tailed Eagle Breeding site. Along with
the Styx Valley lone tree sitter, this is another person perched
high in the trees, highlighting the fact that many of Tasmania's
ancient
forests are being fed to the woodchipper," Spokesperson Warwick
Jordan.
"As Wedge Tailed Eagles soared above our protest today, we were reminded of how habitat for this critically endangered species is rapidly disappearing in Tasmania. The irreplaceable value of these ecosytems along the Eastern boundary of the Tasmanian World Heritage Area is highlighted by the actions of tree sitters in the Styx and Denison valleys," Spokesperson Warwick Jordan said.
