FORESTRY TASMANIA PACKS UP AND MOVES ON

Forestry Tasmania have today packed up and moved out of two forest areas in Tasmania's southern forests. Community activists have today highlighted the continued destruction of two forest areas on Warra rd and Manuka rd, on the southern ridge of the Lower Weld Valley, by erecting structures at access gates.

"We negotiated with the workers today. We did not prevent research that was to be conducted in the Long Term Research site and we agreed to let the logging machinery to be taken out of the areas," spokesperson Jess McLachlan said.

"We are committed to highlighting the continued destruction of threatened forest in the Lower Weld Valley," Jess McLachlan said.

"Today's actions have been several kms behind a locked gate from Tahune Airwalk, and 20kms from Camp Weld where activists have been working consistently for 5 months. We have been successful in halting roading operations in the Lower Weld Valley and want to question how Premier Paul Lennon can justify continued logging in high conservation value forest," Jess McLachlan said.
