TWO FOREST ACTIONS CLOSE DOWN LOWER WELD VALLEY
A moratorium on forestry practices in the
Lower Weld Valley is being called
for, in conjunction with actions to halt current logging in the
area take
place. Community Activists have today halted work in two forest
areas on
Warra rd and Manuka rd, on the southern ridge of the Lower Weld
Valley, by
erecting structures at access gates.
"It is time our Premier Paul Lennon
and Forestry Tasmania respond to our
concerns about the continued destruction on the the Lower Weld
Valley. We
are calling for a thorough and independent land use practices
in the valley"
Spokesperson Jess McLachlan said.
"Today's actions are several kms being
a locked gate from Tahune Airwalk,
and 20kms from Camp Weld where activists have been working consistently
for
5 months. We have been successful in halting roading operations
in the
Lower Weld Valley and want to question how Premier Paul Lennon
can justify
continued logging in high conservation value forest," Jess
McLachlan said.
Community Activists have been at Camp Weld
in threatened forest halting
proposed roading operations for the past five months. A new tree
sit camp
was established last week on South Weld rd nearby access to well
known
tourist icon, Glovers Bluff. The action on South Weld rd is preventing
logging machinery from accessing a high conservation value world-heritage
bordering threatened forest.
