A Tasmanian Ancient Forest Protected for Third Day
Community Activists Hold Strong and Promise to Stay

"Community Activists are entering the third day of halting logging in high conservation value forest in Tasmania's south. Activists have halted work on the frontline for two days, and we are committed to
staying. Our action is highlighting the sensitive ecosystem that is the Barnback Catchment, a large threatened forested valley that links the Snowy Range and the Lower Weld Valley," Spokesperson Warwick Jordan said.

"These forests on the southern slopes of the World Heritage value Snowy Range, need immediate protection. Their importance to wildlife, in particular Wedge Tailed Eagles can not be replaced when clearfelling has occurred. Barnback forest and the Lower Weld Valley are the victims of a 'Community Forest Agreement' by Lennon and Howard that spelled more destruction for these areas," Warwick Jordan said.

Community Activists are committed to staying at their post while pristine water catchments and Wedge tailed eagle breeding sites remain under threat from the continued logging, burning and poison regime of
the Tasmanian Government, in the Tasmania's High Conservation value Southern Forests.
