New veneer mill opens
Friday, 18 May 2007
Forestry Tasmania says a new veneer mill in the Huon Valley will generate more than 100 full-time jobs for the State.
The $32 million Ta Ann mill near Geeveston was officially opened this morning.
The Federal Forestry Minister,
Senator Eric Abetz, Tasmanian Premier Paul Lennon and Forestry Tasmania
head Bob Gordon were all on hand to mark the opening of Ta Ann's rotary
peel veneer mill at the Huon Wood Centre.
Mr Gordon says economist Bruce
Felmingham has estimated the mill will inject more than $36 million
into the state's economy creating 115 full-time jobs.
A small crowd of protesters gathered outside the site to voice their concerns about the mill's impact on the Weld Valley.
