Protesters blocked a gate to the Tahune Airwalk in Southern Tasmanian yesterday as ecotourism conference delegates were about to arrive.
Save the Weld Action Group put a tripod over the gate and spoke to delegates bussed to the Forestry Tasmania tourism site. SWAG spokesperson Rob Sheehan said: "This was to highlight to the ecotourism conference delegates that Forestry Tasmania is clearfelling and woodchipping World Heritage nominated forests literally minutes away from the Tahune Airwalk that is their showcase."
Forestry Tasmania operations general manager Kim Creak said: "A number of tourists turned back. Is that what we want Tasmania to be known for?"
