Protests continue in Prime Ministers promised conservation areas

25/1/12 - Logging is continuing today in areas supposed be to under moratorium, as promised by Australia's Prime Minister. 430,000ha was supposed to be put aside from logging while the Intergovernmental Agreement (IGA) looks at what areas should be finally protected. The picture above is an area logged for Malaysian logging giant, Ta Ann. It borders the far south corner of the Tasmanian World Heritage Area. This area should have been protected.
Today there are tree-sit protests in the NW of Tasmania and in the Picton Valley in the South defending more areas inside that 430,000ha. Again these native forests are destined for Ta Ann. The forests and their wildlife need no more broken promises, they need protection.
